Melbourne Truck and car technology is evolving rapidly. Electronic safety systems, engine technology, tyres, aerodynamics and other aspects of vehicle design mean that today’s vehicles are safer, quieter, more productive and far more fuel efficient. The Safety and Productivity Drive Day will feature many of these new technologies including demonstrations of:

  • Electronic braking systems
  • Rollover stability systems
  • Innovative vehicles designed using Performance Based Standards (PBS)
  • A range of hybrid transport vehicles
  • Fuel efficiency demonstrations
  • Safety demonstrations of lane assist, collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control

The morning will feature track demonstrations of this technology followed by displays and discussions in the afternoon. There will be an opportunity to ride in some of these vehicles and talk to the drivers about the impact that these emerging technologies have on their workday. Expert opinion will be provided in areas of braking, safety systems, aerodynamics, tyre technology and maintenance, fuel systems and fuel efficiency and more. Who should attend? This day is aimed at informing fleet purchasers, regulators, enforcement personnel, policy and standards organisations, and all levels of government.

Peter Hackett to Test Drive at Sandown!

Peter Hackett is the Chief Driving Instructor for Mercedes-Benz Australia. Peter also presents "Test Drive" on Channel 9 and is commentator on "Speekweek".

He has also been a Race Driver for Lamborghini since 2003. An Australian Champion in Formula 3, with racing experience in Europe, America and Japan. Winning 19 races from 21 starts to lead the Aussie F4000 & the GT Championships.

Peter and his team will be on track at the Sandown Safety and Productivity Drive Day to provide an unforgettable driving experience.

Participants will experience "hands on" active safety features like emergency braking, Electronic Stability Program, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist and a range of other life saving technology now available on the latest cars and commercial vehicles.

The Drive Day will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the latest safety features available on a range of sophisticated cars, vans and trucks. The day will also feature Performance Based Standards (PBS) and fuel efficient vehicles along with displays from innovators in the transport industry.
